Hahepi Waste! Welcome!

This is the official website of Mato Chichala Wowapi 'oti.

Mato Chichala Wowapi 'oti is Lakota for "Young Bear Libary."

It is named after the Young Bear family from Porcupine, South Dakota. Lawrence Young Bear Sr., 61, and daughters Janet Young Bear, 27, and Leslie Young Bear, 25, were struck by a vehicle and killed as they stood on a highway, said BIA Agent John Long. They were checking the damage to a car that had just hit a deer.

Mato Chichala Wowapi 'oti is a new community micro library being planted in Sharps Corner, South Dakota, on Pine Ridge Reservation in Shannon County.

But it is much more than statistics can tell.

In two weeks, we will be taking a trip to Sharps Corner to have a book giveaway and to "kick off" the new library.

We will post updates and photos here, as well as information about the library as it grows.

We will feature a link to Library Thing, where you can read the Mato Chichala Wowapi 'oti catalogue, to the Amazon wishlist and many more links as Matho Wowapi 'oti develops.

The library is being planted by Bread for the Brain, a non-profit organization based in Ohio, in concert with the people of Sharps Corner, especially Vicky Shoulders, who has worked very hard to bring good things to her community. We very much appreciate Vicky and everything she is doing.
